The MCU Needs More Stories Like Scarlet Witch To Survive Time

the mcu needs more stories like this Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness to survive phase 5. The rest of Doctor Strange takes the character to a much darker setting than what has been done so far. Although this change has caused divisions and criticism among some viewers (just like the rest of Phase 4), it is still a bold move that could have a positive effect on the future of the franchise. . With more than twenty films and half a dozen series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seriously pulls on its good audience to capitalize on old and little reinventiveness.

Wanda Maximoff’s arc in the MCU is riddled with tragedy. After spending most of the franchise as an Avenger after Avengers: Age of Ultron where she first donned the villainous cape, Wanda still has to face controversy when she accidentally causes a massive explosion in Lagos and losing her brother and her lover. In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madnessdue to the corruption of the MCU’s Darkhold and her obsession with finding the children she lost in her Disney+ series, Wanda Vision, she assumes her role as the Scarlet Witch and becomes an antagonist in her own right. While this is a tragic twist for the character, it’s also something the MCU has never addressed before.

If the MCU has ever dealt with morally complex narratives in movies like Captain America: Civil War, Wanda’s story is different. His bow in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is the perfect example of a failed redemption arc, something the MCU has never attempted until now. For the most part, the majority of conflict in the franchise has been largely tinged with black and white. With the passage of Scarlet Witch from hero to villain, a new shade of gray continues the MCU’s continuity, opening the door to new types of stories. Especially since with the probable death of this version of Scarlett witchthe redemption arc, often added to this type of story, seems less likely in potential sequels.

An up-to-date phase 5

The MCU Phase 4 has been incredibly experimental in its approach to new projects. Although many of them were not received favorably, it allowed the franchise to reinvent itself after the infinity saga and to explore different genres and narratives for the future. The bow of Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is the opportunity for the mcu to look at turnaround behaviors, whether for the antagonists as the protagonists (not you, Loki). While it may make viewers (especially fans of the character in question) uncomfortable, this type of character arc deepens the storytelling of the mcu and will be what he needs to stay on top when phase 5 arrives.

It is always possible that the future of the wanda in the mcu be marked with redemption if she ever returned. But for now, having a go at a failed redemption arc is a big step forward for the MCU. With the franchise increasingly faltering, it’s time to try and see what works.
