Santander 2022, from October 17 to 30

The first week will be the team competition and the second, the individual competition. On Sunday, October 23, between one competition and another, a cultural day will be held with different activities for the participants.

The event is organized thanks to the support of the Santander City Council (through its Department of Sports), of the Government of Cantabria (through the General Directorate of Sports and the General Directorate of Tourism), and the Higher Sports Council. The Spanish Badminton Federation and the Cantabrian Badminton Federation are the main organizers.

Santander will bring together more than 600 athletes under 19 years of age from more than 45 countriesto which we must add about 600 companions and around 200 members of the organization, so the event will involve almost 1,500 people.

An activity of these characteristics will generate a significant impact on the community. According to estimates, the Santander Junior World Championships are expected to reach 50 million homes around the world, as they can be followed on streaming, and will generate direct revenue of at least six million euros.

This Junior event is the prelude to the highest level competition: among the medalists from previous editions, world stars such as Olympic champions such as Viktor Axelsen, Chen Yufei or Chen Long and the world champions Akane Yamaguchi, Nozomi Okuhara, Kento Momota or Ratchanok Intanon. Due to the repercussion of badminton all over the world, especially in Asian countries, this is an event that will put Cantabria and Santander on the map.
