The inspectors worked in Giannattasio and Buenos Aires, in Ciudad de la Costa, and at around 6:00 p.m. they stopped the man’s vehicle because he was using his cell phone. He reacted badly, got out of the car and threatened her with the screwdriver.
He then physically attacked her with the tool and punches.
Transit General Manager Alejandro Alberro recounted how the events unfolded. “In this fight, you have to remember that the traffic police officers were always smart enough not to attack, and in the end we had two colleagues injured by punches, because it was not just a screwdriver that caused the violence,” he said.
Furthermore, he denied the fact and expressed concerns.
The union requested a meeting with the municipality of Canelones and they decided to go on strike, as happens in situations like this. “This cannot wait,” noted the president of Adeom Canelones, Santiago Sartori, mentioning that there have also been other situations of uncertainty in the department.
“As an association, you experience this at a national level. Other inspectors of the department suffer from the same situation and what we will demand from the authorities of the Canelones government in this meeting is that, although we know that they must engage police officers in every night traffic operation, they must immediately do the following: We would like this to happen even during the day, which, given the course of events, is necessary to ensure the safety of our colleagues,” he noted.
