The Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series closes its first edition

The Madrid CrossFit ® Challenger Series has closed its first edition with total success. More than 4,000 people have vibrated with the event, which was held from December 10 to 12 at the Gallur Municipal Sports Center in Madrid. Throughout the competition there was a festive, sporty atmosphere full of experiences for the spectators of all ages who filled the stands.

The Madrid City Council, specifically from the Sports Area, has promoted the event with a strong commitment that has made this first edition a reference for the future. The Councilor for Sports, Sofía Miranda, has highlighted “the high level of the athletes who have participated”, and has valued the importance of being an event where the prizes for men and women are equal, “something that was very important for the Madrid city council, since one of our objectives is to work for equality in sport from the institution. “The Madrid CrossFit ® Challenger Series is framed in the calendar of events of Madrid World Capital of Sports 2022 as one of the important sports competitions that are held in Madrid along this sporting milestone for the city.

The competition has turned out to be a claim for the best national and international CrossFit ® athletes, who have been present in the competition from up to 20 different countries. What’s more, the prestigious ambassadors of the event, Annie Thorisdottir and Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson, legends of the world CrossFit ®, have become the great endorsers of the Madrid CrossFit ® Challenger Series, ending up pleasantly surprised by the scale of the competition.

Both CrossFit ® athletes, together with Olympic medalist Ray Zapata, silver in gymnastics at the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, they have championed the event being the ambassadors. Both Zapata and Thorisdottir and Guðmundsson have carried out different Master Workouts with a small group of assistants, who have enjoyed training with the athletes. In addition, the two Icelandic ambassadors have delighted their fans with the Meet & Greet, which has allowed fans to have direct contact with their idols.

Giorgos Karavis and Oihana Moya, winners in Individual Elite

Giorgos Karavis has been proclaimed champion of the Madrid CrossFit ® Challenger Series in the Men’s Individual Elite category. The Greek, with 678 points, has been far superior to his rivals and takes the first prize of the competition, endowed with 12,000 euros. In second place was the Swiss Adrian Mundwiler, two points above the Hungarian Kristof Horvath, who was third.

The winner in the elite individual female category has been the Spanish Oihana Moya, who is confirmed as the best athlete in Spain and one of the most projected at the European level. The Basque has prevailed with 686 points above the Colombian Valentina Rangel and the Dutch Linda Keesman. His economic prize has been 12,000 euros.

In the Team Elite competition, the Training Culture CFZ team has prevailed, giving the public an exciting battle with the TFM Team in which, above all, sportsmanship and camaraderie have stood out. Both teams have shown that they have a lot of projection and possibilities to represent Spain in the next CrossFit ® Games. Third was the French Spirit team. Outside of the Elite categories, the Team RX and Team Master competition have also been contested, with Los Solfamidas and AFW Team as champions respectively.
