The long list of free players

Fabrizio Angeleri, Cristian Pavón, Ricardo Centurión and Domingo Blanco are some of the important names in Argentine football who have not been playing due to contractual issues and who will be released from this Friday, with the possibility of negotiating their ties with any other club. Some of them have even done it.

Angileri, River side, played for the last time with the club shirt in November of last year and at the beginning of 2022 he was removed from the squad for not wanting to renew the contract, despite the fact that he was a key part of the Núñez team. His case is similar to that of Benjamín Rollheiser, the young forward who made his debut Marcelo Gallardo, who was already able to negotiate his early departure and is a new player for Estudiantes de La Plata.

The Mendoza left-back will surely continue his career in Europe, since he has a community passport, and in the last hours he was linked to Getafe from Spain.

On the Boca side, the case of Cristian Pavón was very similar. The Cordovan striker will leave the club after eight years and two cycles, in which he played a total of 163 games and scored 36 goals. His last match was on December 14 in the friendly against Barcelona in Riyadh for the Diego Maradona Tribute Cup. Boca stopped using him when it became known that he had a pre-agreement signed with Atlético Mineiro. However, his judicial situation (he has been charged since December 2020 in a case of sexual abuse) could complicate his departure from the country.

Boca will also lose from Friday Eduardo Salvio, who said goodbye on Tuesday after the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 against Corinthians. The difference is that Toto showed interest in renewing his bond and played until the end of his cycle, although he finally opted for an offer from Pumas de México.

The list of players who, for the most part, will leave Argentine soccer in search of new destinations as of Friday also impacts the other big teams. Independiente was unable to retain Domingo Blanco, Colombian Andrés Roa and Uruguayan Carlos Benavídez and is working against the clock to renew the contracts of Gerónimo Poblete and Juan Cazares, who arrived from Ukraine.

Blanco will leave “Rojo” after seven years at the club (in 2018 he was on loan at Defense and Justice) and is one of Antonio Mohamed’s wishes to reinforce Atlético Mineiro. In the case of Roa and Benavídez, the Avellaneda club loses money and assets again, since it invested nearly two million dollars in the Colombian and two and a half million for the Uruguayan.

On the other side of the street, Racing will officially be without Nery Domínguez, who was already fired by the people in the last game, and Javier Correa. The first will follow his career at the University of Chile and the striker returned to Santos Laguna, from Mexico.

For its part, San Lorenzo will officially part with four players tomorrow: Ricardo Centurión, Gabriel Rojas, Gino Peruzzi and Alejandro Donatti. Centurión, who arrived in January, had a contract until December, but there is a clause that allows “Ciclón” to terminate in advance the link that had been cut in football at the end of April due to indiscipline.

Rojas, a left back from the club, will play in Querétaro, from Mexico; Peruzzi, who arrived in January 2019 in exchange for 800 thousand dollars, would play in Alianza Lima, from Peru; and Donatti, for whom the club made a similar investment and will leave with a millionaire lawsuit in court, has not defined his future since he sounded in Chile and was also offered to Central.

Colón was also one of the protagonists of the winter market since he could not stop the departure of Rodrigo Aliendo to River and Federico Lértora, who will go to Xolos de México when the series against Talleres ends. The only survivor of the champion midfield will be Christian Bernardi, who renewed his contract for two more seasons. “Sabalero”, however, could benefit from a departure from his rival since midfielder Juan Ignacio Méndez ends his relationship with Talleres and is close to being a reinforcement for Julio César Falcioni’s team.

Central suffered a new loss in the attack since Lucas Gamba will finally not renew after rejecting the last offer from the leadership and will be a free player. The 35-year-old striker arrived in Rosario in mid-2019, played 89 games and scored 14 goals. He was offered to Independiente but coach Eduardo Domínguez still hasn’t made up his mind as he considers that position to be covered.

In La Plata, Estudiantes suffered the loss of Matías Pellegrini, who must return to Inter Miami, but took advantage of the freedom of Rollheiser and Eros Mancuso from Boca to incorporate them. Instead, Gimnasia came close to losing striker Nicolás Contín but finally managed to renew him until December 2023.
