The legendary Nilla Fischer retires from the Swedish national team

“Fighting for equality also means practicing and living it, so it’s time to make the final decision that my time with the Sweden team is over.” This is how Nilla Fischer (Kristianstad, 1984) has announced that she is closing her stage as an international with the blue and yellow elastic. Committed to football and to society, the legendary Swedish defender leaves her country’s national team after 21 years and 189 caps.

“Representing Sweden has been one of the greatest honors of my career”, said a Fischer who made her debut with her national team when I was just 16 years old, back in 2001. In 2005 he finished establishing himself in the blue and yellow team, in which he has played as a central defender or as a midfielder.

Hard-working, technical and committed, both on and off the pitch, the legendary defender thus officially leaves a Swedish national team, whose shirt he could not wear in the last European Championship in England.

However, nothing can tarnish a long career with 189 games played as an international, two third places in the 2019 and 2011 World Cups and a silver in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.

for now, Nilla Fischer will continue playing for her team, Linköping, with whom she played yesterday in the victory against Hammarby (0-1)in the Swedish league, which is in its final stretch.
