The leader of the Mexican Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel sentenced to 60 years in prison

The leader of the Mexican criminal organization Cártel Santa Rosa de Lima (CSRL), José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, alias ‘El Marro’, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for kidnapping.

"An oral trial court of the Judicial Branch of the State of Guanajuato, based on the evidence presented by the specialized MP, found him and his co-authors guilty of the crime of kidnapping.", has reported the State Attorney General’s Office, according to the Mexican newspaper ‘La Jornada’.

The Judicial Power of the State of Guanajuato (PJEG) has explained that in addition to the 60 years in prison, a fine of 347,520 pesos (about 15,000 euros) has been issued against ‘El Marro’ and his accomplices.

In addition, according to the sentence, those sentenced are denied the benefits of conditional sentence and commutation of the custodial sentence, as well as the substitutes of work in favor of the community and semi-parole.

‘El Marro’ and five other members of the cartel were arrested on August 2, 2020 in the municipality of Juventino Rosas. In the operation, a 50-year-old businesswoman from Apaseo el Alto who had been kidnapped was rescued.
