Barça will play this Sunday in Antequera its ninth consecutive final of the Copa del Rey (He’s on an eight win streak) by beating Galician Cangas 36-28 (17-11) who were playing the first semifinal in their history. The Cangueses were very excited, however they could not threaten Barça because if in the Cup a surprise is always possible, in the second crash in two days the possibility of winging suffers a lot.
Cangas was like a good sparkling wine, strong and with starting bubbles, brave, well planted, with the desire offered by playing without pressure and with half a tier in favor (the other half simply watched). But when Barça began to move their men midway through the first half, Cangas’ resistance suffered for one simple reason: while Barça has a second unit, the rest have starters and substitutes, and no matter how much Moyano combines players to balance the groups he has on the court, the imbalance is evident.
Due to all these circumstances, he went to rest with the game decided on a day when Makuc was the emergency left winger at Barça (due to Ariño’s injury): 17-11. And although the Cangas is recognized for its capacity for resilience, and for resurfacing when it is most despondent, it was impossible no matter how its wingers Dani Fernández and Monteiro were a headache for Barça, or David Iglesias signed up for their party.
The reality is stubborn: the centimeters, the kilos and the quality of Barça is much higher, so much so that the illusion of Cangas could not multiply its capacity. It is the difference of this Barça team with the rest, that all its players would be starters in the rivals with whom it competes in Spain.
