Hungarian Anna Bondar became champion of the Argentina Open tennis this Sunday and thus celebrated her first WTA title in the event that marked the country’s return to the international calendar after 34 years. The Hungarian, third favorite, beat the French Diane Parry, seventh favorite, in the final 6-3, 6-3, to win a trophy that will allow her to rise 28 positions in the ranking and get closer to the top 100 of the WTA.
The duel between Bondar and Parry was much more even than the score indicates, but the difference in favor of the winner was in her effectiveness when capitalizing on opportunities. The 24-year-old Hungarian went bankrupt on three of the five occasions she had, while the French could not capitalize on any of the four possibilities she caused.
