Scheduled to last until November 15, the health pass could be extended beyond this date depending on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic, warned the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.
He recalled that such a desire would require “a new law, which would again be debated in Parliament”. “I am not saying that it cannot happen, it could happen if the Covid does not disappear from our lives in the next three months”, he added during his press conference on Thursday.
The health pass has been compulsory since July 21 in places hosting more than 50 people (whether for culture, leisure, sports, trade shows, etc.). It was extended on August 9 for access to hospitals (except emergencies), bars, restaurants or large shopping centers by prefectural decision. It will be necessary from Monday to the employees of these places.
The Minister of Health also affirmed that “the last reluctance is falling in the face of the success of the health pass”. Associated with an “effective system of tests and the massive vaccination of the French, (it) made it possible to cross the summer without confinement despite a wave of very contagious variant”, he estimated.
