The Gladiators have a new coach: Guillermo Milano will take the reins of the Argentine men’s handball team, replacing the Spanish Manolo Cadenas, who spent four years at the helm.
Milano was assistant to Cadenas and Eduardo Gallardo, former coach of the selected team, and was in command of the Junior team of Argentina for ten years.
“When Manolo arrived in the country, he longed for our National Team to be able to maintain the level of play as it had at the 2015 World Cup in Qatar or the Rio 2016 Games. The objectives were met and a very successful cycle closes in which we resumed hegemony at the Pan-American level and we qualified for the third consecutive time to the Olympic Games, “said the brand new coach.
And he added: “I think Manolo left his mark on us, with an intense game with a lot of dynamics. In addition, he inserted a large number of young people to the project and was key to articulating the landing of players in Spain. His solidarity and the way he gave His knowledge seeking the growth of all is what I personally value the most. “
Regarding the steps to follow, he continued: “What we will seek in this stage that is beginning is to consolidate the project that we started several years ago, whose starting point is the development of the young promises of our sport. The idea is to continue with the philosophy of the game that characterizes Los Gladiadores “.
Cadenas debuted in October 2017 in a Four Nations tournament in São Paulo, Brazil, and closed his cycle after participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after qualifying three consecutive times for the highest event in sport.
“The feeling is one of sadness, for leaving something that has meant a lot in my life such as my relationship with Argentine handball. I have been treated very well, with much affection, which is what we all want and it is hard to say that for now this stage is over, “said the Spaniard.
In that sense, he added: “We all inherit legacies that we must try to continue. I inherited Gallardo’s legacy with his coaching staff and many players who kept alive that strength and the identity signs of Los Gladiadores.”
“Now there will be a small renovation, with emblematic players who have been everything and have been the architects of this evolution of the National Team and who are now leaving it, like Gonzalo Carou and Sebastián Simonet,” he closed.
