The future of Spanish cycling meets in Toledo

The province of Toledo will host again this 2023 two cycling events aimed at future riders of Spanish cycling and both in the sub-25 category, an age range in which many cyclists are in the position of finding an opportunity in the professional field or hanging up the bike. The IV edition of the Chineta Memorial, one-day race, awaits a squad of 180 runners next Saturday, March 4 in Burguillos. In summer the II Tour of Toledo Imperial will be held, which in this 2023 grows with one more stage (there will be four), from August 3 to 6 and a similar number of cyclists.

The objective of the Peña Ciclista Chineta, which was born in 2020, has always been to favor the cycling academy. Not surprisingly, almost all the winners of one of the two races have ended up taking the leap. Alessio Acco, winner of the Memorial in 2020, went professional with Eolo Kometa and is now with the Italian Zalf. Marcel Camprubí, winner of the I Tour of Toledo Imperial already wears the colors of the newly created Q36.5 directed by Vincenzo Níbali.

Both tests have special characteristics. ANDhe Julio López de la Torre ‘Chineta’ Memorial seeks to emulate the route of the Clásicas del Norte. It takes place in March, at the beginning of the season, and has 11 named special stages in which the race is usually decided. From the complicated ones with rough asphalt, such as Gitanemberg or Minemberg, rated five or four stars, to the always decisive and final Toledberg, five stars, and which involves the ascent to the Parador de Toledo along the Carretera del Valle, a hill of more 12% and only ten kilometers from the finish line.

The II Tour of Imperial Toledo will once again combine almost all the disciplines of cycling. It will have four stages and one of them will be a team time trial. There will be mountains with ascents to Alto del Robledillo, the Alpe d`Huez in Toledo located in Cabañeros, to Piélago in the surroundings of Talavera de la Reina, and also some arrival at the sprint for the fastest.
