The former Trump attorney turned himself in to Georgia authorities after his indictment

Caracas.- ANDFormer New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is charged with former President Donald Trump on charges of attempting to tamper with the results of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election, surrendered to Georgian authorities on Wednesday.

Before he turned himself in, his attorneys held a meeting at the Fulton, Georgia District Attorney’s office, Fani Willis, to negotiate the terms of bail, which ultimately amounted to $150,000.

After that meeting, Giuliani went to the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, to have his fingerprints and photos taken for court records before posting bail and leaving the jail.

“I am very honored to be involved in this case because this case is a fight for our way of life. These charges are not just an attack on me, on President Trump, or on anyone else involved, but on the American people,” he told the press at the prison exit.

If something like that happened to him, he said without showing a shred of regret, it could happen to anyone. “I’m being persecuted because I’m an attorney defending an American citizen. Five other lawyers are charged. That should make it clear that this is an attack on the constitution,” he stressed.

The arrival of 79-year-old Giuliani in Georgia sparked great expectations in the media. His landing at Atlanta Airport in a private plane was broadcast live on CNN.

His surrender to Georgia authorities comes after two more of the 19 defendants also appeared at Fulton Jail this week. Trump plans to do so this Thursday.

All of the defendants are accused of being part of a conspiracy aimed at changing the outcome of Georgia’s 2020 election. Various methods were used, from lobbying by officials responsible for confirming the results to attempts to steal election data in a rural county in the state.

Specifically, Giuliani is accused of being part of a plan that would have 16 Georgia Republicans serve as the state’s electors to elect the President of the United States in the Electoral College to reverse the election in Trump’s favor despite the fact Democrat Joe Biden had won by a narrow margin in that state.

In the United States, the president is not elected by popular vote, but by an indirect system, so when citizens go to vote they are actually electing the Electoral College delegates who will represent them in a final vote.

Giuliani was one of the most visible faces in Trump’s attempts to overturn election results across the country.

One of the moments that best illustrated this role was the post-election press conference in which he denounced an alleged voter fraud where he was seen with brown sweat streaks on his forehead, something the public attributed to a product made by the electoral fraud The former mayor had always tried to cover up his gray hair.

This press conference took place on the outskirts of Philadelphia, near a crematorium and sex shop and in front of a small landscaping company called Four Seasons Total Landscaping, which its team mistook for the luxury hotel chain Four Seasons.

Giuliani’s public image has suffered a spectacular decline in recent years: around two decades ago, he was known with the honorary title of Mayor of the Year for managing to stoically lead New York after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001, was awarded the title of “Her Majesty’s Knight of Honor” by Queen Elizabeth II of England and named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2001.
