Manchester United are preparing for a big summer transfer window and one of Erik Ten Hag’s priorities is to sign a new centre-back. Although the futures of Maguire, Varane and Lindelof remain unclear, according to a recent report from Football Insider, one name is on the Dutchman’s wish list: Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
Branthwaite, 21, has shone for Everton this season and has become one of the most reliable players under Sean Dyche. His performance has caught the attention of prominent clubs in the league and the report suggests Manchester United are leading the race for the talented English defender, who recently scored a crucial last-minute goal against Spurs.
United are looking for central defenders
The young centre-back, whose contract at Goodison Park runs until 2027, is currently worth around £25 million. However, with competition for his services increasing, Everton are expected to increase that figure.
Despite not addressing reinforcement needs in January, the Red Devils have opted to save money to make significant moves at the end of the season and the possible arrival of Branthwaite could be a crucial step in strengthening Manchester’s defence United in view of the challenges ahead.
