Islamabad: A new trouble has arisen in front of Pakistan, which openly supports the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan. Pakistan wants to put up a fence on the Durand Line, but is hesitant to act, perhaps because of the Taliban’s ‘fear’. In such a situation, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Friday that his country, keeping in mind its concerns, will complete the remaining work of fencing the Durand Line with the consent of the Taliban regime of Afghanistan.

‘The work will be completed with the consent of our brothers’

Pakistan has completed almost 90 percent of the work of fencing the 2,670-km-long international border to prevent easy passage of terrorists. However, Afghanistan has resisted the centuries-old British-era demarcation. Ahmed said that more than 2,600 km long border has been fenced. He hoped that the work of fencing the remaining 21 km of the border would be completed ‘with the consent of our brothers’.

From time to time there are clashes
The border fencing has always been a contentious issue between the two countries, and clashes have been reported from time to time in recent times. Last month, some videos circulated on social media purportedly showing members of the Afghan Taliban tearing down a section of the border fence. They claimed that the fence had been put up inside Afghan territory.

‘Won’t allow fencing’
Earlier this month, Taliban commander Maulvi Sanaullah Sangeen issued a stern warning to Pakistan, saying the Taliban would not allow any form of fencing along the Durand Line. Sangeen told ‘Tolo News’, ‘We (Taliban) will not allow fencing in any form, at any time. They (Pakistan) did what they did earlier, but we will not allow it now. Now there will be no fence.
