The expansion project in Masjid al-Haram was named ‘The Saudi Porticoes’

Makkah Mukarramah: The Mutaf expansion project in Masjid al-Haram has been named ‘The Saudi Porticoes’, under the project, more than 170,000 pilgrims will be able to perform Tawaf in one hour.

According to the details, a new royal decree was issued regarding the expansion of Masjid al-Haram, the director general of the Presidency of Haramain Sharif announced that the expansion project in Masjid al-Haram has been named ‘The Saudi Porticoes’.

Al-Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said that this name has been kept according to the vision of King Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud and the work of expansion of Masjid al-Haram is continuously going on.

He said that this time the historical expansion of the boundaries of Masjid al-Haram is being done, the project also includes the expansion of porticoes.

Al-Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, explaining its background, said that the founder of the state, King Abdulaziz, had ordered the expansion of Masjid al-Haram in view of the increasing number of pilgrims, after which the royal decision was implemented in 1955 during the reign of King Saud. It started and continued during the era of Shah Saud, Shah Faisal and Shah Khalid, while it continued to be completed during the era of Shah Fahad and Shah Abdullah.

The head of the Haramin Sharifin administration, Al-Ali, said that its unique feature is that it has a vast area that is unprecedented in the history of the Al-Haram Mosque. It consists of four floors, the ground floor, the first floor and The second floor consists of four floors including the terrace.

Under the Mataf expansion project, more than 170,000 pilgrims will be able to perform Tawaf in one hour, those performing Tawaf from the multi-story porticoes will be directly in front of the Kaaba.
