The Exit 8 Wins Cannes Film Festival Poster Design Award

The world of gaming and cinema just got a whole lot more exciting. A movie based on a hit video game has won a major award at a prestigious film festival.

The movie, called The Exit 8, scooped up the top prize for poster design at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This was part of the Prix Luciole Awards, where the film itself also made its debut.

What caught the judges’ eyes? The poster’s simplicity. “It’s bold, yet simple,” they said. “The font, the size, the yellow color… it all comes together to create an image that sticks in your head.” The poster shows a subway station – a place that’s supposed to be ordinary, but ends up being eerie and haunted.

The Game Behind the Movie

The Exit 8 started out as an indie game that took the internet by storm in 2023. The gameplay is easy to grasp, but it’s the fear factor that really gets you. You’re trapped in a subway station that seems empty, but things can take a dark turn fast. Everyday objects become the things that scare you the most.

Release Dates

The movie version of The Exit 8 hits Japanese theaters on August 29. If you can’t wait, the game is already out on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
