The EHF has made public the teams it admits to the Europa League for the 23-24 season. In total there are 37 teams, of which five will remain in the preliminary phase, and which will join those that go directly to the leagues (27), so that these 32 clubs enter the eight groups of four teams until they reach the eighths, the quarters and the Final Four (May 25 and 26), which still does not have a venue after the crash of Flensburg this season, which requested to be the host and stayed in the quarterfinals (against Granollers).
The Spanish presence is limited to three teams (four were expected) because in the end the EHF has not accepted Bidasoa’s request, a fixture in Europe in recent years. Cuenca enters as runner-up in the League, and Logroño as runner-up in the Copa del Rey, and they fit directly into the group stage. However the Granollers, third in the League and runner-up in the European League won by Fuchse Berlin, will have to play the previous tie, in a squad that also includes Hannover, Vardar (two-time Champions League champion) and Rhein Neckar Lowen.
In this year’s European League there are high-level teams among those 27: Germany: Fusche Berlin and Flensburg; Portugal: Sporting, Benfica; France; Nantes and Chambery (France); Poland: Gornik Zabrze and Chrobry Glogow; Croatia: R. K. Nexe; Denmark: SIlkeborg and Skejern; Swiss: Kadetten and Kriens-Luzern; Swiss: Kristianstad and Saveho; Macedonia: Alkaloid; Hungary: tatabanya; Slovenia: Gorenje Velenje; Slovakia: Povazska Bystrica; Romania: Dynamo Bucharest; Greece: AEK Athens; Norway: elverrum; Serbia: Vojvodina; Bosnia: Izvidac; Montenegro: lovcen.
