The Estrellas Orientales rehire reliever Román Méndez

The Stars re-signed reliever Román Méndez, this time as a restricted free agent, general manager Manny García announced Wednesday.

Méndez was one of the Stars players who became free agents on February 15, with the restriction that they could only negotiate as such with their former team, until March 15, by virtue of the agreement between the teams of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic and the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players.

The seasoned pitcher was originally obtained by the Stars in a trade with the Eastern Bulls in 2018.

Last season (2022-2023), the native of San Pedro de Macorís had a brilliant job as a situation reliever (to face threats from the opponent to score runs).

In the Regular Series he had records of 2-1, with a 0.69 earned run average, in 19 relief relief efforts and 13 innings pitched. His WHIP was 0.77.

In 8 Round Robin games, his record was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.

In 4 games of the Final Series, he had no decision and no run allowed in 2.0 innings pitched. He faced 7 batters.

For life in the Dominican League and in the Regular Series, the right-hander has a record of 11-10, with a 2.45 earned run average, in 135 games, all in relief. He has a game save.

In 74 playoff games they have a 4-2 record, won and lost. His ERA is 3.94; with WHIP of 1.31.
