The Estrellas Orientales hire Wilton Veras as bench coach

The Stars have hired Wilton Veras as their bench coach for the upcoming season, their general manager, Manny Garcia, announced.

Veras will thus return to the team of which he has been a coach in different functions, the most recent time as an assistant manager, in the 2021-2022 season.

The former player for the Stars, and for the Boston Red Sox in the Major Leagues, is the current hitting coach for the Texas Rangers in the Dominican Summer League.

With the Stars, Veras has been an assistant hitting coach, hitting coach and assistant manager, in a relationship that as a coach has had two stages: from 2016 to 2019, and in the 2021-2022 season.

With organizations in the United States, Veras has always worked as a hitting instructor since 2012, when he started with the Boston Red Sox organization. He later worked for the Cincinnati Reds and now with the Texas Rangers. With all of them in the Minor Leagues, from the Dominican Summer League to Class A Advanced or Strong.

As a manager, he has been a manager for the Rangers in the Instructional League.

Veras was the hitting coach when the Stars won the national championship in the 2018-2019 season, under current manager Fernando Tatis. Garcia, now the general manager, was the pitching coach.

“It is a great pleasure for me to return to the team that saw me as a player and then gave me an opportunity as a coach in the Dominican League,” said Veras, who played for the Stars in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons, after having previously played with the Leones del Escogido, for nine seasons.

“It is also a great pleasure to meet again with colleagues who made history, when the Stars won that 2019 championship,” he added, referring to manager Tatis and today’s general manager García.

Veras assured that Tatis, García and he know each other very well. He pointed out that, therefore, he considers that it will help everyone in the performance of their respective functions.

The gentlemanly coach has a good reputation and appreciation among players, coaches and directors of the Stars.

Several team players suggested the return of Veras as one of the club’s coaches for the next season.
