The electric car that sweeps sales in Japan

Japan It is a peculiar market for the automotive sector. Due to the little space available in the country, tax advantages are granted to the so-called kei-car, ultra-compact cars with engines of no more than 660cc, designed to expedite traffic in areas with large concentrations of population.

They are, therefore, the perfect segment to incorporate electrical mechanics clean, something that many brands are already doing, although some with more success than others. nissan is on the good side of the scale: the Sakura It has received so many orders that the waiting list to receive the car was more than a year, so they have had to stop their sales.

23,000 orders in two months

The Sakura was launched on the market in May and in just two months it received 23,000 orders. The brand has not made public what its numbers are in November, but they have been so high that they have temporarily stopped offering it at its dealerships, since its production rate cannot meet demand.

Its success is surprising, not because of the nissan sakura itself, but because electric cars have not caught on too much among Japanese society. Part of its good reception is due to its price, because with 2,333,100 yen, less than 16,000 euros to change, it is quite affordable.

The measurements of the Nissan Sakura

The model itself is an urbanite of 3.4 meters long, 1.48 meters wide and 1.66 meters high; with a wheelbase of 2.5 meters.
