The edition of Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank 2021 concludes with more than 3,000 participants

The Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank circuit has closed its 2021 edition with more than 3,000 participants in the eleven stops organized throughout the territory, a fact that has consolidated it as the largest free outdoor 3×3 basketball event in Spain. In the current edition, the first organized after the stoppage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 3,000 male and female players of all categories, from pre-Mini to Senior, they have been organized into 824 teams. In total, 1,269 matches have been played with a presence of more than 25,000 visitors.

The 11 stops of this edition, held in a still complicated post-pandemic context, have been experienced in Valencia, Castellón, Málaga, Barcelona, ​​Cáceres, Madrid, Guadalajara, Huelva, Almería, Leganés and Jaén, cities where it has been possible to recover the pulse of the circuit, its spirit and values. In all of them, the conferences have been held in their most emblematic enclaves and in strict compliance with health protocols that have guaranteed the health of participants and visitors.

The presence of Fernando Romay

This year, in addition, the circuit was held for the first time in the framework of major urban sports events, such as the Extreme in Barcelona and the Madrid Urban Sports. His first stop, in Valencia, coincided with the celebration in the city of the Women’s Eurobasket, and in two of the last, in Almería and Jaén, with the presence of the Women’s and Men’s National Teams, concentrated for the dispute of their qualifying matches for the Eurobasket and the World Cup respectively.

As in previous editions, the circuit has had the presence at all stops of FEB Ambassador Fernando Romay, who has been in charge of organizing and entertaining different skill and shooting competitions for all participants, in a parenthesis of the competition day itself.

The value of the Woman Universe

The circuit, which since its inception has been linked to the women’s basketball promotion program, Universo Mujer Baloncesto, has become even more established as an excellent platform to promote the practice of basketball by girls and young people. In this sense, female participation in the 2021 circuit has increased by 4 points compared to that registered in the previous edition. The number of players registered in this edition represented 35% of the total of 3,000 participants.

Institutions, Autonomous Federations and Volunteers

The organization of the stops has had the collaboration and involvement of the City Councils of the different host cities, as well as the other local and regional institutions and the Autonomous Federations. The highest representatives of all of them have participated, part-time, in an institutional presentation ceremony at the center of the CaixaBank Track.

And as always, groups of volunteers from the FEB – CaixaBank Volunteer Program, which now has almost 20,000 registered, have been a fundamental part of the organization and logistics of each day. 101 stops, 42 cities and 45,000 participants since 2012. With the 11 days of the year, the circuit has reached 101 stops, 45,000 participants and 225,000 visitors since its inception in 2012.
