That is why, through an interview, he explains how difficult it is to adapt to a new physical and mental condition. “Today I have to work on my guide with an arm that is not the same. This forces us to use our legs more, although I will avoid a blow to the head”.
“The objective of MotoGP requires mental clarity, courage and a technically adapted bike. If I am still here today it is because I accepted this risk. Otherwise I wouldn’t have set the fastest time in the first free practice sessions in the rain in Portugal and I wouldn’t have set that time in qualifying”.
Feeling a vision problem again is one of his greatest fears
For now, the biggest uncertainty is witnessing a new case of diplopia, a problem that he suffered for the first time a decade ago. “The doctors explained to me that my optic nerve can suffer depending on the violence of the impact, but also on the angle of the blow received”, said the Catalan rider.
The six-time MotoGP champion does not hide that he thought about retiring at certain times. “I realized that if he did it, it would never be the same again. From time to time I wonder if it will be worth it. But until now the answer has always been yes”, he concluded.
