The Dominican Republic has the necessary tools to attack money laundering

The president of the Trade Union Renewal Movement, Diego Babado Torres, assured this Wednesday that the The Dominican Republic has the necessary legal tools to attack money laundering head-on.

The statements by Babado Torres were offered during the delivery of certificates to more than 300 lawyers trained in Law 155-17 on Money Laundering, where he indicated that the country also has regulations, international conventions of the United Nations Organization (UN), and the Palermo Convention.

According to him, the authorities have been doing prevention work that, although has not been able to put an end to this type of crime, It has influenced its decrease due to the use of banking measures, real estate measures, and others.

“There are all kinds of measures that allow the authorities to carry out a prevention policy to prevent money laundering from being a practice in the Dominican Republic,” said the head of Renovación Gremial.

He also said that the country has made progress in terms of money laundering, and has even been recognized by international organizations, but that when cases of this nature continue to be presented, it is because there is complicity with the authorities.

“If you want to see if there are measures or not, go to a bank to deposit a million pesos and you will see that you will not be able to do it. When there are cases of money laundering, it is because there is some kind of complicity with the authorities, but the legal tools are in the Dominican Republic”, Barbados exemplified.

They certify lawyers

More than 300 lawyers and business leaders received this Wednesday the certificate that endorses their training in the management of Law 155-17 on Money Laundering.

The act was held at the headquarters of the Bar Association, following a strategic alliance between the Trade Union Renewal Movement, the National Council of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of the Dominican Republic (Conacerd) and Financial TURIS.
