The Dominican blunderbuss in the World Classic

The big Dominican bats are on the team. Manny Machado, Juan Soto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Julio Rodríguez, Rafael Devers, Teoscar Hernández, Eloy Jiménez, Ketel Marte, Jeremy Peña and others give a blunderbuss status to the team that will seek the crown from March 11.

Finally, the figures that will represent Quisqueya in the fifth version of the World Classic in which they appear in Group D, along with Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Israel and Nicaragua, were announced.

A whole waste of talents that at least in the offense complete, Willy Adames, Wander Franco, Jean Segura, Francisco Mejía, Gary Sánchez, Robinson Canó and even Nelson Cruz, the team’s general manager will prepare to take their turns in the tournament.

In fact, Canó and Cruz will be the only members of that great Dominican team that won the World Baseball Classic undefeated in 2013.

On his side, Sandy Alcántara leads the starting rotation that will also have Cristian Javier, Roansy Contreras and Johnny Cueto, another great veteran in these contests.

On his side, the relay will be made up of Bryan Abréu, Diego Castillo, Camilo Doval, Jarlin García, Luis García, Yimi García, José Leclerc, Rafael Montero, Héctor Neris and Gregory Soto.

On his side, Ronel Blanco, Génesis Cabrera, Enyel de los Santos, Carlos Estévez, Joel Payamps and César Valdez will be in the so-called designated pool.

On offense, the Dominicans will bring their arsenal of good hitters, with a fearsome batting lineup headlined by Soto, Machado, Vlady Jr, Devers, Rodríguez, Teoscar and a handful of others, all with the ability to scare any pitcher.

They will have a cast group led by Peña, Adames, Franco, Segura, Sánchez, Mejía and even Cruz himself may once again run into some sticks. While Alcántara, the Cy Young of the National League last season, leads the starters ace and even already asked for the ball for the first day that the Dominicans will meet Venezuela.

Joining him will be Javier, a winner of 11 games with the Astros and a 2.54 ERA, Contreras, who had a 5-5 record with the Pirates, and Cueto, a veteran who debuts this year with the Marlins and who achieved a record 8-10 with the White Sox.

The relay

The relievers are expected to be brilliant, Abreu, Montero and Neris were decisive for the Astros to win the World Series last year. Doval comes from rescuing 27 games with the Giants.

Likewise, Castillo, Jarlin and Luis García also have magnificent performances in the relay. Catchers Sánchez and Mejía represent a magnificent combination of offense and defense for the Dominicans. According to the roster presented by MLB Network, the Dominicans will present a very tough nut to crack in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
