According to Indian media reports, a shopkeeper was shot dead over a dispute over 10 rupees in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh state.
According to the police, the victim, Mahesh Chand, was a Jatav Dalit and was sleeping outside his makeshift shop when the accused Gulfam alias Gula Banjara shot him in the head.
The police arrested the accused Gulfam and registered a case under the provisions of murder.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, Gulfam revealed that Jatav used to sell petrol at his shop, among other things. A few days before the incident, Gulfam had bought petrol from Jatav. After leaving the shop, Gulfam noticed a difference of Rs 10 in the transaction, police said.
Gulfam asked the victim to adjust the balance amount but she refused, after which they had an argument.
According to the police, the victim had also threatened Gulfam. After the victim’s threat, Gulfam decided to take revenge and shot dead the shopkeeper.
