Disney has commissioned a series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians for its streaming platform, Disney+. Rick Riordan published the first series of books Percy Jackson and the Olympians in 2005 with “The Lightning Thief”. The book was an immediate success, and the author subsequently released the four sequels: “The Sea of ​​Monsters”, “The Titan’s Curse”, “The Battle of the Labyrinth” and “The Last Olympian”. Each book follows Percy Jackson, after learning of his divine parentage. He is then propelled into the world of Greek gods and goddesses and their mixed-blood children.

Director Chris Columbus had already adapted the work of Rick Riordan on screen in 2010 for Fox under the title Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The film featured Logan Lerman in the role of Percy Jackson, Alexandra Daddario in that ofAnnabeth Chase and Brandon T.Jackson in that of Grover. The film received fairly mixed reviews due, in particular, to the writing and the choice made to age the characters. Logan Lerman, however convinced for his performance in the title role. The first part was profitable enough to afford a sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of ​​Monsters, produced by Thor Freudenthal, Fox dropped the idea of ​​a third film. However, the saga remains popular and the idea of ​​a series appeals to fans.

Disney+ officially ordered Percy Jackson and The Olympians, according to The Wrap. The pilot will be written by the author of the saga, Rick Riordan, with Jon Steinberg. James Bobin (The Muppets) will carry out the project. The first season will follow the plot of the first book of the literary saga:

Aimed at general audiences with a focus on tweens, teens, and young adults, the series tells the fantastical story of a modern 12-year-old demigod, Percy Jackson, who is just beginning to come to terms with his new supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master, lightning. Percy must then cross America to find him and restore order on Olympus.
