The DGT prepares the purchase of more mobile radars

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) plans to invest €975,000 in acquiring at least 14 mobile radars that will allow the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard control speed both moving inside a vehicle and at a fixed point using a tripod.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) publishes this week the tender notice of the DGT for the supply of these dynamic radars. One of the service specifications, to which Servimedia had access, states that each of them must include cinemometer and pre-installation device.

The kinemometer is a device capable of detecting speed of the vehicles that circulate through the control area and to measure it with extreme precision in the event that the measured speed exceeds a pre-established limit, so that the vehicle image at that time, together with the speed measurement and other relevant data, are recorded in an encrypted digital file format and tamper proof.

Thus, its function is to identify speeding and document them through photographic evidence. Its operation should include the possibility of use in static or dynamic mode, which allows the speed of the offending vehicles to be recorded both with the police vehicle stopped or in motion.

Each kinemometer must include sensor, camera and processor unit, as well as flash system, mechanical fasteners, tripod and tablet computer. The expected cost of each unit is 69,642.86 euros.

Among the tasks entrusted to the Agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard is the control of the speed of vehicles that circulate on the roads. The DGT intends to expand controls, especially on secondary roads.

How are the DGT radars

According to Tráfico, the cinemometers are very effective, they have the advantage that they allow their dynamic use, especially in roads with a high concentration of vehicles, such as highways or highways, where the location of other types of radars can be a danger, so they can complement those placed in cabins or porticos.

“It is necessary to have a high performance cinemometer, as well as the necessary brackets and wiring assemblies, capable of measuring speeds in Multi-Lane and that it can be used in various modes of operation, static, on the vehicle or tripod, or dynamic”, the DGT underlines in one of the documents.

Therefore, it intends to provide the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard with the appropriate means to control speed in the most effective way possible with the acquisition of kinemometers with its pre-installation.

These radars must detect the presence of vehicles that cross the measurement area that covers the traffic lanes in both directions (removing and approaching) simultaneously or individually and up to six lanes of traffic.

It will classify them between light and heavy, which may be subject to different maximum speed limits, depending on the minimum length chosen by the user, from which a vehicle is considered a car or truck.

the cinemometers measure the speed of each of detected vehicles in circulation, even if they do not exceed the established limit, and determine and identify the lane in which the vehicle being measured is traveling, even if it appears more than one vehicle in the photograph.
