According to recent reports, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur remain strong rivals in the race to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly. The 25-year-old, a former England Under-21 international, has been in the Cherries’ ranks since joining from Bristol City in 2019. He made 130 appearances in all competitions and contributed three goals and seven assists as a central defender.
With six months left on his contract, Kelly appears ready for a new challenge at another club. Although there is widespread interest both in the Premier League and abroad, foreign clubs have the advantage of being able to hold formal discussions and progress a pre-contractual agreement. AC Milan, among others, have been linked with the defender but were unable to reach an agreement in January.
Kelly, the wish of Tottenham and Liverpool
According to Football Insider, Kelly is in no rush to make a decision about his future club and is keeping Premier League teams on alert. This represents an opportunity for teams like Liverpool and Spurs, particularly the latter who are facing the departure of key players such as Harry Kane and uncertainty over other players in the team.
Although Liverpool have a strong youth squad, Kelly could still be a valuable addition, providing cover at both center and left-back. However, their current focus remains on keeping Bournemouth in the fight for a place in the top half of the Premier League table, with the coastal side looking to leapfrog Fulham in the standings.
