The dead woman won the election

A dead woman won the local elections in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

A woman has won local elections nearly two weeks after her death, officials said, according to a foreign news agency. Supporters kept their pledge to support him out of respect.

According to the AFP news agency, Ashiya B won about 44 percent of the votes this month in the race for a municipal civic body seat in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state.

Ashiya B was reportedly suffering from a severe lung and stomach infection and died during treatment just 12 days before polling. 30-year-old Ashiya B was the first female candidate to be declared the winner posthumously.

Her husband Muntazer Qureshi said that B won the hearts of the people with his patience, he informed the election authorities about the death of his wife, but they did not remove his name from the ballot paper after the announced schedule. Candidate’s name cannot be excluded.

Resident Muhammad Zakir told The Times of India newspaper that Ashiya won over people with her words and actions and people did not want to break their promise of support, which resulted in success.
