Moscow: 35,681 new cases of Kovid-19 have been reported in Russia and 1,241 patients died. The number of infections continues to decline in the country, but even on Monday, the death toll remained around the record high. The country’s coronavirus task force recorded 1,241 deaths, up from 1,254 deaths reported last week. At the same time, 35,681 new cases have been reported. Cases have been declining since early November, when daily cases reached 41,000, the highest number since the pandemic broke out.

Health experts say the number of cases of infection and death is increasing due to the lack of vaccination with Kovid and the public’s negligence in taking precautions. Less than 40 percent of Russia’s population has received both doses of the vaccine, even after the country approved the home-made Sputnik V vaccine months earlier than most countries in the world.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that he had received a booster dose of Sputnik Light. Previously, he had taken a single dose of the Sputnik vaccine in the spring. He said that he is fine and that the booster shows no ill effect on him. The Kremlin has empowered local authorities to impose sanctions based on the local situation. At the same time, many Russian provinces have tightened restrictions and only people with proof of being infected or of vaccines are allowed to carry out activities in public places.
