The great news of the announcement of the invitation to the Caja Rural for the next Tour of Spain was overshadowed in the team by the Serious accident suffered by his cyclist Sergio Martín while training this Wednesday.
According to the team itself in a statement Martín, 26, was training with his time trial bike near his home in Galapagar when he collided with a car.
The impact was of such magnitude that Martín had to be transferred to the October 12 Hospital, where he is conscious and stable, and where the damage he suffered after the brutal collision with the following medical part: fracture of five ribs and two vertebrae, of which he will have to be intervened.
Martín had been one of the most active cyclists at the beginning of the season in the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA after participating in several trophies of the Challenge of Mallorca, the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, the Volta ao Algarve and O Gran Camiño. He will now have to stop for the next few weeks to recover and return to the peloton in top form after this big scare.
