Chelsea have set their sights on Jules Koundé and intend to sign him next summer. At the match between Naples and Barcelona, which counts for the round of 16 of the Champions League, technicians from the English club were present with the aim of closely observing the French defender, as “Hitc Football” revealed. Despite this interest, Koundé reportedly has no current plans to leave Barça.
Chelsea had already shown great interest in Koundé in the summer of 2022 and was competing with Barcelona for his services. Although the English club offered more lucrative terms, the player decided to join the Catalan team, failing in Chelsea’s attempts to sign him.
Chelsea want Koundé
The French defender joined Barcelona for an initial fee of 50 million euros, plus a further 12 million in variable amount, with a termination clause of 1,000 million euros. Chelsea’s interest in Koundé is intensifying due to the possible departure of Thiago Silva, whose contract will reportedly not be renewed in England. In addition to Chelsea, clubs such as Newcastle and Arsenal have also shown interest in the defender.
Since arriving at Barcelona, Koundé has played multiple roles in the team, adapting to both the defensive axis and the right side of defense depending on the needs of coach Xavi Hernández. Although he has primarily been used as a centre-back this season, his versatility makes him even more attractive to potential suitors such as Chelsea.
