Meta, Facebook’s recently announced parent company, has announced some new products.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, discussed a future virtual reality headset and augmented reality glasses.
However, it appears that Meta is working on other new products that Mark Zuckerberg didn’t mention. Bloomberg reports that Meta is developing a smartwatch with a front camera and a photo as a backup.
The photo is from app developer Steve Moser, who found it inside Facebook’s new app to control his Ray-Ban branded smart glasses.
Shows an Apple Watch-like device with rounded corners, but has a camera at the bottom of the screen. The watch also has a nearly invisible button on the top, as well as a removable strap.
In June, we heard that Facebook was working on a smartwatch with two cameras, but this is the first time we’ve been able to see a real image from the device.
In 2013, anticipating the Apple Watch, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Gear, a smartwatch that had a 1.9 MP camera. Today’s watches come without a camera.
For Meta, who has recently focused on virtual worlds and augmented reality, a camera-equipped smartwatch makes a little more sense, though how it works in practice remains to be seen.
