The children were found alive 40 days after the plane crashed

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said that 4 children who were missing as a result of the plane crash in the Colombian jungle have been found alive.

Children from the local community have been rescued by the military near the border between Colombia’s Caqueta and Guavier provinces where the small plane crashed.

On May 1, the plane crashed between Araraquara in the Amazonas province and the city of San Jose del Govier in the Govier province. The pilot made a mayday call reporting engine trouble and lost contact with the aircraft shortly after.

As a result of the accident, three people including the pilot and the children’s mother were killed and their bodies were found inside the plane.

Four children, ages 13, 9 and 4, as well as a now 12-month-old baby survived the crash and survived in the wild for 40 days.

The children’s grandfather told reporters that he was overjoyed at the news of their rescue. Photos shared by the Colombian military show a group of soldiers with four children in the middle of the jungle.
