The Cavaliers team wins the NBA All-Star Skills Contest

Competing on their court, Cleveland Cavaliers youngsters Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen prevailed in the skills contest that opened Saturday’s NBA All-Star Game.

The trio was declared the winner at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland (Ohio) of the first edition in which this contest is competed in teams instead of individually.

Another of the competing teams was made up of Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), two-time league MVP, and his brothers Alex (Raptors 905) and Thanasis (Bucks), while the other was made up of rookies Scottie Barnes (Raptors), Cade Cunningham (Pistons) and Josh Giddey (Thunder).

The Cavaliers team, which succeeds the Lithuanian Domantas Sabonis in the contest winners, won clearly in the first shooting test, with an almost infallible Darius Garland.

Antetokounmpo’s team triumphed in the passing test, while the rookie team prevailed in the relay.

In a tiebreaker, Garland eliminated the Antetokounmpo from 3-point range and led the Cavaliers to a final against the rookies, whose winner was the team that scored in the least time from the halfway line.

Cade Cunningham nailed the shot at 9.9 seconds but was passed by Evan Mobley, the Cavaliers’ rookie center, who scored on his first attempt and gave the hosts the win.

The 71st All-Star program, which began on Thursday with the Rising Stars event, continues this Saturday with the 3-point and dunk contests.

The highlight of the weekend will be the All-Star Game on Sunday.
