The brothers Bernardo and Cristhofer Pie achieve gold medals in Panama of taekwondo

The brothers Bernardo and Cristhofer Pie, from the Dominican Republic, won gold medals in the Pan Am Series, qualifying for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Cristofer, the youngest of the Pie brothers, won the gold medal in the category under 54 kilograms, after defeating Aubin Giovanni, from Brazil, in the final, who took the silver medal. Saúl Gutiérrez, from Costa Rica and Kariel Cruz, from Puerto Rico, shared the bronze medals.

On his side, Bernardo won the gold in the division minus 68 kilos, after defeating Braulio León, from Peru, in the final. The bronze medals went to Puerto Ricans Edgardo Nazario and Adrian Benitez.

Other Dominicans

In the same competition, Moisés Hernández, also a Dominican, obtained the silver medal in less than 80 kilos, after losing the gold medal to Henrique Rodríguez, from Brazil.

Dominican also achieved a silver in the modality of poomsae.

Other Dominicans who got on the podium were Mayerlin Mejía and Katherine Rodríguez.

Miguel Camacho, president of the Dominican Taekwondo Federation, was pleased with the performance recorded by the Dominican competitors.

He stressed that although the event is a qualifier for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games, the Dominican Republic has guaranteed its participation with its full team due to its status as sub-venue of the regional event and venue of the taekwondo tournament.
