Matt Chapman homered and doubled, Kevin Gausman pitched three-run ball over six innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Wednesday night.
Cavan Biggio set up Bo Bichette at the last minute and doubled and singled for the Blue Jays. Bichette, the American League leader with 101 hits and who had played in Toronto’s first 75 games, was unable to perform because of a sore left thumb.
Venezuelan Luis Arráez went 2-for-5 for the Marlins and led the majors with a .398 average.
Gausman (7-3) allowed eight hits and struck out six in his 12th start of six or more innings.
Sandy Alcántara (2-6), the Marlins’ starter, added another poor outing to a frustrating season. The reigning NL Cy Young man used five runs and 10 hits in seven innings, and his ERA rose to 5.08.
