Sanjay Dutt’s production house, Three Dimension Motion Pictures, has released its first film, “The Bhootnii”. The movie, directed by Sidhant Sachdev and produced by Deepak Mukut alongside Sanjay Dutt, stars the latter alongside Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, Nick, Asif Khan, and Harsh Vardhan Singh.
A Story that Falls Flat
The film revolves around a college campus where a particular tree is said to possess a spirit that can unite true lovers on Valentine’s Day. However, there’s a catch – there’s another tree with a mysterious female spirit, or “Bhootnii”. While the movie initially appears to be about ghostbusting, it quickly derails into a messy campus love story. Despite its interesting premise, the narrative lacks depth, and the execution is subpar. The plot meanders like a never-ending loop, failing to engage the audience.
The main characters, played by Sunny Singh and Palak Tiwari, have a lackluster romance that never truly develops. Sanjay Dutt’s character, a ghostbuster, tries to make an impact but ends up being more of a caricature than a compelling presence. His age and physical limitations show, making it hard for him to pull off the heroics he’s attempting.
Technical Aspects
The film’s cinematography, handled by Santosh Thundiyal, is one of the few redeeming aspects, as it manages to capture some visually appealing moments. Amar Mohile’s background score also provides some much-needed atmosphere, although it’s not enough to salvage the overall mess. The production design and special effects, however, are subpar, giving the film a cheap, video game-like quality.
The music, or lack thereof, is also a major letdown. The choreography, courtesy of Ganesh Acharya, fails to impress, and the songs feel like an afterthought. The editing is sloppy, making the pacing feel disjointed.
Performances
The cast struggles to elevate the material they’re given. Sanjay Dutt, despite his best efforts, can’t make his character work. Palak Tiwari and Sunny Singh deliver mediocre performances, while Mouni Roy, as the titular Bhootnii, puts in a lot of effort but needs to work on her acting chops.
Overall, “The Bhootnii” feels like a wasted opportunity. With a stronger narrative, better execution, and more attention to detail, this could have been a fun, spooky romp. As it stands, it’s a skippable film that fails to impress on almost every level. The movie is slated to release on May 1, 2025.
