“The best is Marquez”

Joan Mir (Mallorca, 25 years old) opens with some iconic colors in the history of the motorcycling World Championship, those of the Repsol Honda, although also ‘poisoned’ in recent seasons. Jorge Lorenzo (2019), Álex Márquez (2020) and Pol Espargaró (2021-22) went through more pain than glory and Marc Márquez has lived through an ordeal with shoulder and eye injuries since 2020, hoping to recover and get closer one hundred percent already in 2023. Now Mir, the 2020 Champion, he hopes to reverse that ‘curse’.

In an interview published by Repsol Honda, the Mallorcan is excited: “My first impressions of the team were very good in the test. You have to get used to the people and the work dynamics”. “I try to adapt to this challenge with optimism and with the desire to start well. Personally, I like to get to know the team, the bike, the people, the tests, the process”, he assures.

“My sensations when joining a team like this are incredible, each driver has imagined himself with these colors so I am very proud to arrive at a good moment in my career. I am young and I want to repeat what I have done in the past. We will see what I can do”, says Mir.

His partner will be Márquez, a difficult bar to match when injuries respect the ilerdense: “Sharing the box with Marc is a real challenge, he is the best driver on the grid and the one with the most titles. That will be good on the one hand and possibly more difficult. You can share data and learn from within, but if you don’t perform as you want, you will have a really tough rider on the other side”, says Mir, who left Suzuki due to the departure of the Japanese MotoGP factory. “Marc knows how this bike works perfectly and he is able to ride it as he asks: very fast at the entrance of the corner, where it is faster than the bikes I have ridden in the past. Also the power delivery is different from the others I’ve ridden. I have to get used to it, ”he points out.
