The best CrossFit comes to Madrid with the Challenger Series

CrossFit, a discipline that mixes gym exercises, weightlifting or metabolic training, is a discipline in exponential growth and Madrid, the World Capital of Sport 2022, has picked up the glove. From December 10 to 12, the Gallur Municipal Sports Center will host the Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series, an event sponsored by AS that aims to be among the most important on the international scene.

The event will feature elite categories for men and women, elite for teams, RX for teams and Master +35 for teams. The prize pool, of 70,000 euros in total with the same figures for men and women, is one of the “most powerful” in CrossFit competitions, as recalled in the presentation this Thursday, held at Casa de Campo, Víctor Casanovas, director of SevenMila, who organizes the event.

Casanovas stressed that CrossFit is a discipline “that is very taxing and is changing sports practice.” These very varied exercise programs, which include weight lifting, chin-ups, push-ups, jumps or rowing machines and are inspired by the physical preparation of military and police forces, will fill Gallur “with adrenaline,” he said. The Councilor for Sports of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda, said that these Challenger Series respond to the need to “update the catalog of sports activities” in the city and reach “not only children and adults, but also those who are in the middle “. “It is a bet to attract youth to sports practice,” he emphasized. And he stressed that there will be numerous “parallel activities for those who want to approach CrossFit.”

Miranda, who is fond of this discipline and practices it, also welcomed the presence of “great national and international athletes” among those registered. This is the case of Adrian Mundwiler, Silvia García, Gabi Castro, Solveig Sigurdardottir, Virginia Finol or Alexander Anasagasti. These last two participated in the presentation. The Spanish-Venezuelan Finol, a three-time Spanish powerlifting champion and second at the Lowlands 2017, as well as a participant in the 2021 CrossFit Games, remarked that Madrid “needed an event of this caliber” for a long time and predicted that it would be “spectacular.”

“The level of the country has risen a lot. This is a very wise bet. There is going to be war and I will give it my all,” Anasagasti launched, who then participated with Finol and other athletes in a demonstration of what is coming in December: a real crossfit party.
