The Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) announced this Thursday the celebration of the First Tournament of Champions, which is set for the first week of February of the year 2023.
The engineer Rafael Uribe, president of Fedombal, reported that it will be the first time that an event of this magnitude will be held and that eight champion clubs from their different provincial superior tournaments will participate.
The tournament of champions will be held over a period of five days, from Wednesday the first of February to Sunday the 5th at the Palacio de los Deportes Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto, the first three days being the preliminary stage of the eight teams -which will be divided in two groups of four teams each.
He valued that the fourth day (Saturday) the semifinal round will be played (classifying the two best places in each division) and the fifth (Sunday) the final will be played.
Uribe stressed that the teams that will see action in this first version are from the National District, represented by the Bameso club; from La Romana by the Virgilio Castillo (Chola) club; La Vega through Hostos Park; and from San Cristóbal through the Laguneros.
As well as a team from Moca (Espaillat) with Don Bosco; Puerto Plata, whose representation will be the Correcaminos de la Parte Baja; from Santiago the club Gregorio Urbano Gilbert (GUG); and from San Francisco de MacorÃs by the San MartÃn de Porres club.
In that first meeting with the president of Fedombal and the delegates of the participating teams, Augusto and Alberto Castro, from the District (Bameso), were present; Deputy Pedro Botello (La Romana-Chola); and Miguel Adames (La Vega-Parque Hostos).
Also, Francisco Presinal (San Cristóbal-Laguneros); Juan Minaya (Moca-Don Bosco); and José Morrobel (Puerto Plata-Correcaminos).
