Habibul Bashar

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a major step towards improving its women’s cricket team by appointing former Bangladesh team captain and veteran player Habibul Bashar as the new head of its women’s cricket. Habibul was a member of the National Selection Board from 2016 to present, which was recently dissolved. Habibul Bashar gave his consent to take up this responsibility after holding a meeting with women’s wing chairperson Nadel Chaudhary at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on February 20.

It is very important to me to live up to this responsibility

Habibul Bashar, in his statement to Cricbuzz after assuming office as the new head of Bangladesh Women’s Cricket, said that he would be happy to shoulder this responsibility. The women’s team’s recent performance has given us all new inspiration and I believe there is still a lot of potential to take it even further. In my opinion, it would be a big step for us if we start playing cricket for girls at school level because currently there are many players who have played cricket at school level. I will try to promote women’s cricket by visiting different schools. We would like to inform you that the Bangladesh Cricket Board is planning to establish a Women’s Cricket League on a franchise basis. In this regard, Habibul Bashar said that with the introduction of franchise cricket, we will definitely get a lot of benefits from it, but our biggest focus will be to promote women’s cricket.
