The Baftas put land in the middle between “Dune” and “The Power of the Dog”

the sci-fi movie "dunes"by Canadian Dennis Villeneuve, leads this year’s edition of the Bafta awards of the British film academy with eleven nominations, four more than the winner at the Golden Globes "The power of the dog"by Jane Campion, and five more than "Belfast"by Kenneth Branagh.

The Spaniard Pedro Almodóvar will compete in the non-English speaking film category, with "parallel mothers"while the Mexican Guillermo del Toro has achieved three technical nominations with "nightmare alley": Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Among all the categories, the number of directors has increased from the eight that there were in the last edition to twelve in this one, while in the total count, the nominated women amount to 70, which is the largest number in recent five years, that is to say, since it began to be accounted for.

Spanish cinema will be representing at the gala with "parallel mothers"by Pedro Almodóvar, which has been nominated in the Foreign Language Film category.

In the category of best animated film, the Disney piece "Charm"located in Colombia, is one of the four candidates to win the golden mask.

The gala will be held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London on March 13. It will be presented by the actress and screenwriter Rebel Wilson, author of some of the most remembered speeches in recent editions of the Baftas.
