The Asturian Bullbox reigns in the Bizkaia-Porsche Bilbao Championship in the Abra

Asturian ships are very good at navigating the Biscayan waters of the Abra this summer. If a week ago the Taxus Medio Ambiente prevailed in the Costa Vasca Regatta-Ballena de Oro Trophy, now it has been Sebastiano Napoli’s Bullbox that has reigned this weekend after the two days of the XXXVIII Bizkaia-Porsche Bilbao Championship , in which 25 boats took part in one of the most relevant tests that take place in the Cantabrian Sea. Jon Garai’s Thelonious and Juan Carlos Estefanía’s Kohen signed up for the rest of the classes.

The second and final day took place with two tests and, luckily, with more wind than in the initial day on a cloudy Sunday. The Race Committee gave the first start at 1:15 p.m. in the outer Abra with a northwesterly wind of 10 to 12 knots for a 6-mile course. The second course, 10 miles long, also began in this outer regatta course, opposite Punta Galea and Sopelana beach, with a subsequent entrance and triangle in the inner Abra, which always provides a beautiful image in this setting.

Sebastiano Napoli’s Asturian Bullbox, from Puerto y Ría de Avilés, with a first and two second places, finished first in the Regatta Class with Alfredo Flórez’s Taxus Medio Ambiente second and Mikel Emaldi’s Maitena in third place, both with partial victories in the final day. Then, José Luis Ribed’s Tchin Tchin, Mauricio Guibert’s Akelarre, Javier Onaindia’s Symphony, Javier Chávarri’s Rat Pack, Alfonso Churruca’s Alpega and Igmacio Giménez’s Kenex were classified. In the Cruise I class, the most regular was Jon Garai’s Thelonious -two first places in the last two tours, with Juanma Pereiro’s Kribi second and Josu Portularrume’s Andarax Bi third. Behind them were Ángel Herrerías’ Go Blue, Javier Trueba’s Nexus, Pedro Fernández’s Pendo Camargo, Javier Larrañaga’s Cyclone and Koldo Báez’s Marmotinha.

In Crucero II, after the two final tests of 3 and 7 miles in this class, Juan Carlos Estefanía’s Kohen finished first, who came from behind against Carlos Sánchez’s M’Bour from Santander. Lucio Fernández’s Emilu was third and then Íñigo Aldea’s Blai, Pablo Gomez’s Obelix, Jairo López de Guevara’s Ramper, Javier Gómez de Segura’s Haize Lore and Simón Cortés’s Turi appeared in the general classification of this XXXVIII Bizkaia-Porsche Bilbao Championship, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. This Trophy has been sponsored by Centro Porsche Bilbao and the collaboration of the Basque and Biscayan Sailing Federation.
