The alleged mastermind of the attack against Iván Duque arrested in Colombia

The alleged mastermind of the attack on June 25 against the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, has been arrested this Saturday in the Colombian town of El Tarra, in Norte de Santander, as detailed by the country’s Defense Minister, Diego Molano .

"Who makes it pay", has assured Molano in a video collected by the Colombian media ‘El País’. As explained by the minister, the arrest of alias ‘Aurelio’, who was a member of the FARC, shows that the group’s dissidents "they will not be able to stay" in the area, and that the authorities will "dismantle them".

On June 25, several shots hit the helicopter in which Duque was traveling together with the ministers of Defense and Interior and the governor of the department of Norte de Santander. Shortly thereafter, Colombian authorities accused the 33rd Front, a dissidence from the defunct guerilla Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), of being behind the attack.

Iván Duque himself has celebrated the arrest in a message on the social network Twitter, in which he has assured that "Those who intend to sow terror will not be able to escape the actions of our Public Force".

The Defense Minister has also explained that the detainee was also involved in the attack against Brigade 30 of the Colombian Army, on June 15, in the town of Cúcuta.
