Hello Feveruses. With only days to go until 2022 that began for our golf with many uncertainties (but closed in style), today we have a compilation of the five most important events in national golf this year. Let’s see:
5th. Edition of the Corales Puntacana Championship. After everything we experienced in 2020 together with the HUGE difficulties faced by the hotel sector, I honestly thought that the event was in danger, since its main sponsor was directly affected by the crisis. But Grupo Puntacana decided to go even further, announcing this year’s edition in 2021, and then the renewal for four more years, an extraordinary milestone due to the country’s exposure throughout the world. From March 20 to 26, 2023 we will see each other again in the sixth edition of the tournament.
The LAAC for the third time in the DR. 2016 marked the beginning of this saga with the triumph of Paul Chaplet. Then he returned in 2019, leaving Alvaro Ortiz through the front door, and this year he returned to the fairways of the Teeth of the Dog to see Aaron Jarvis lift the trophy and gain access to The Masters and The Open Championship for the first time. In 2023 the event goes to Puerto Rico with the eighth stop of the best amateur golf in Latin America.
DR Open Amateur. The amateur competition returned to its fullest, and FEDOGOLF staged a memorable event for locals and for the large number of players who came from more than ten countries to enjoy Casa de Campo, its benefits, and the magnificent competition that this year had Team USA as champion. A great return to the tournament, which was cemented as one of the best in its short history.
Inauguration of Vistas Golf and Country Club. As transcendental I call this great project condemned to be the new oasis of the families of the country, especially those of the great Santo Domingo. A great event that was headed by His Excellency the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Luis Abinader, and the president of Grupo Malespín, Marcos Malespín. The club has come to fill a huge void, since in the city there was only one “Country” type club, solving a big problem that families had due to the lack of a safe and reliable leisure place. One of the great moments of golf was this opening that we applauded and celebrated.
BM Cargo Tournament. Although it is a social (but competitive) golf event, the tournament this year showed its best clothes and is already considered by almost everyone who played it as the best of the 9 editions and the best held in the DR. 360 players competing in a majestic Punta Espada, two nights of artistic presentations (Danny Rivera, Toño Rosario, Alá Jazzá, Víctor Manuel), dances, crazy hours, a “full” field of amenities and an extraordinary atmosphere, set the pace of the event that was born in 2013 and that has already been placed at the top of popular taste.
