The 77th edition of the Tour of Spain will be held from August 19, 2022 to September 11 and will start in the Dutch town of Utrecht with a team time trial.
The Spanish round will continue for two more days through the Netherlands with a stage on August 20 that will cover the route between Hertogenbosch and Utrecht and another on 21 through the North Brabant region on a circuit stage, starting and finishing in Breda.
The presentation of the teams will take place on Thursday 18 August in the center of Utrecht.
Vuelta 2022 will pass through 34 Dutch municipalities in three stages. The local organizing committee, headed by the cities of Utrecht, Breda and Hertogenbosch and the provinces of Utrecht and North Brabant, it is made up of a group of public institutions headed by Sharon Dijksma, Mayor of Utrecht.
“We finally have an official date. We really wanted to get the La Vuelta project back on track in Holland and now we can’t wait to get back to work. We are preparing a wonderful program for residents and businesses, as well as for all our international guests. Our aim is to further strengthen the special bond that already exists between Spain and the Netherlands, “said Dijksma.
This vision is shared by Javier Guillén, general director of La Vuelta:
“We are setting new dates for a project with almost 6 years of work behind it. These extra months of waiting have not reduced one iota our desire to work together, nor the enthusiasm and ambition that we have put in organizing this official outing from day one. This outing will go down in history, marking an important milestone for both Spanish and Dutch cycling. “
The program of activities related to the official start of the Vuelta from Holland will start much earlier. The events that have been designed to entertain the regions and cities visited by the race will begin several months before its takeoff, making the Vuelta en Holland project a concept that goes far beyond the three days in which it will host the stages.
The organizing committee has woven a network of contacts with sports clubs, schools, cultural institutions and local businessmen to build a broad idea and a program of activities around cycling, a healthy urban lifestyle and sustainability.
The official departure of La Vuelta from Holland also coincides with a very special occasion for the city of Utrecht, It is 900 years old since it was officially recognized as a city.
