Tezos signs $27 million deal with Man United

Manchester United is one of the world’s most popular football teams playing in England. The club is to announce a multi-year sponsorship of training kits by the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain platform Tezos.

The deal is apparently more than $27 (€23.5) million a year. The Tezos logo will appear on the team’s training uniform. Manchester United have been filming promotional material ahead of the official announcement.

The report also speculates that a partnership may emerge in the technology world. Examples of this are a metaverse or other Web3 projects.

Tezos has invested heavily in sports sponsorship. In May 2021, RedBull Racing announced that Tezos became its official blockchain partner. Tezos built its first non-fungible token (NFT), which launched in November later that year.

A similar announcement came a month later from McLaren Racing. Tezos became their first official technical partner in a multi-year deal for its Formula 1, Indycar and esports teams. The Tezos network was used in the launch of McLaren’s NFT collection in October 2021.

Manchester United is one of the top players in English football, the English Premier League. It joins several other Premier league clubs that have sponsorship deals or fantoken partnerships.

In August 2021, Dogecoin started a partnership with Watford FC and became the shirt sleeve sponsor for the 2021-2022 season. The players wore the famous meme logo of the coins on their arms. Manchester City, Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC have all launched fan tokens on various platforms such as Socios and Bitci.

Baby Doge teams up with German football club

Meanwhile, a Doge- and Shiba Inu-inspired meme coin Baby Doge Coin has announced that it is partnering with professional football club TSG Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim is a team in the Bundesliga, the highest football league in Germany.

In an announcement, Hoffenheim confirmed that Baby Doge will become an official partner of the club. They will work together to develop club-specific NFTs. Baby Doge is advertised on LED signs around the pitch during the team’s home games. Hoffenheim CEO Denni Strich said:

“TSG Hoffenheim is delighted to partner with such an innovative and great brand as Baby Doge. We are excited and looking forward to a successful collaboration, bringing an NFT collection from the club and other exciting projects to life.”

Mike Watson, a project manager at Baby Doge, stated that the deal would expand its presence in the global market and in the European Union. This is a big step to form even more strategic partnerships to expand its reach as a community-based project by establishing itself as a player in the sports world. It is not yet known what the next (strategic) partnership will be.
