John Textor’s eyes sparkled with pride after Botafogo’s 1-0 win over PSG in the Club World Cup group stage. The Botafogo owner, whose team is coached by Renato Paiva, beamed with joy, saying the victory was a testament to the team’s heart and desire. “We knew they were the world’s best team. They probably were the best team on the pitch tonight, but maybe we had more guts,” Textor said in an interview with Made In Foot.

Textor praised his team’s performance, saying they played like an English team – structured, disciplined, and organized. “We looked like Europeans tonight. I’m really proud,” he said. The American businessman, who also owns Lyon, coached by Paulo Fonseca, was thrilled to have the opportunity to pit his team against the UEFA Champions League winners. “They just won the UEFA Champions League… It meant more to us than it did to them. Still, we’re lucky to play them in this format and show that Brazil can play football.”
Textor’s Botafogo may have come out on top, but he still had praise for their opponents. “Hats off to PSG. I love Ligue 1. They’re the world champions, and it’s great to have this chance.”
